100,000 a month could lose their jobs
Over recent weeks there has been rising concern over unemployment levels in the UK, with the recession and the current financial climate already have seen many jobs lost or threatened.
However, some industry officials are predicting that the first three months of this year could see up to 100,000 jobs a month lost, with around 300,000 jobs expected to go by the time April comes around.
Over the past couple of weeks economists have predicted that hundreds of thousands of people could lose their jobs during the first three months of the year, and that this could mean job losses not just in the financial sector but also in a variety of other sectors.
Some of the workers that are expected to suffer include those working in retail, estate agencies, in the legal field, in manufacturing, in building and construction, in advertising and marketing, and in a variety of other sectors where there has been a marked slowdown.
There are also concerned that once the job losses start to come the morale of other staff members will hit rock bottom, as many will wonder when their turn will come.
One official said: ‘Managers will be attempting to perform the organisational equivalent of emergency triage. Staff will be traumatised by news of colleagues losing jobs, anxious that they might be next, or simply feeling hard done by because their pay and perks are being scaled back.’
