Pick up a bargain when you jet off abroad
Over recent years jetting off on a holiday abroad has been out of reach financially for many people.
Whilst hotel costs and the cost of living abroad is often cheaper than in the UK, often making it cheaper to spend a week or two overseas on your holidays than in a destination in the UK, the cost of the flight to your chosen destination can really bump up the price, and it is this that has put overseas vacations out of the reach of many people.
However, with the recession kicking in and with many people now cutting back on their spending holiday firms and flight operators have realised that in order to get consumers to travel they need to offer some form of incentive. We have all seen major High Street retailers slash their prices over recent weeks in order to try and encourage spending and increase sales, and this is something that many airline operators and travel companies are now doing.
In fact, at the moment consumers can pick up some real bargain flights and deals on a variety of short and long haul flights from major airlines such as British Airways and Virgin, both of which have been trying to increase business by running sales. BA, for example, has slashed its fares to places such as New York and other far flung destinations, making it easier for consumers to travel in terms of affordability and increasing business at the same time.
If you are thinking about travelling abroad this year it is well worth checking out the prices that these airlines and travel agents are offering, as they can go back up as quickly as they came down which could end up costing you hundreds of pounds extra depending on how many are travelling. It is better to book ahead and make the savings whilst the going is good than wait around and find that they have shot back up to the higher price because all of the sale seats have been snapped up.
One industry expert said recently: ‘There are real bargains to be had thanks to the combination of our New Year sale and the reduction in the fuel surcharge. We know from research that customers still rate their annual holiday as extremely important even in these difficult economic times, but obviously they want to make the absolute most of their money and this is a great time for them to do just that.’
An official from the Association of British Travel Agents has stated that it was worth consumer taking advantage of these deals whilst they were still around, as they could finish at any time.

We know that the prices offered over the next few weeks may not be matched later on in the year, so, if you see a good deal, snap it up. Oil prices are low now, and so could be reflected in airfares, but they are very volatile and may well go up.’
