Look out for the new BOGOF deal from Tesco

As a nation Brits are suckers for special deals in supermarkets, and many of us are guilty of buying something that we didn’t even actually need simply because it was on special offer. Amongst the various offers that supermarkets have launched in the past are half price goods and buy one get one free deals, and both of these prove hugely popular amongst consumers.

However, one of the problems that have arisen from the popular and commonly seen buy one get one free deals that are seen in supermarkets comes with perishable products. Many consumers have found that whilst buy one get one free deals offer value for money because they are getting another of the same item for free there is also a high risk that with perishable items they wont get around to using the second product before it goes out of date.

This problem has resulted in not only the consumer losing out on the free product because it goes off before they can use it but also in a lot of food wastage, which is something that even the Prime Minister Gordon Brown has expressed concerns about in the past. Obviously with items such as household goods, toiletries, and the like the problem does not occur because the item will not go off, but many households – particularly smaller household – are not able to make use of perishable items before their use by date and end up chucking them out.

One leading supermarket, Tesco, has come up with a plan that could help consumers with this problem with a very different kind of buy one get one free deal. The first of the deals is set to be launched in the next couple of days and they will run over the next couple of weeks. The deal from Tesco will be available on a wide range of perishables and is called the ‘Buy one Get One Free – Later’ deal.

With this new deal consumers can choose to take the free item along with the one that they are purchasing in the usual way. However, for those that do not think that they will be able to use the item before it goes out of date there is also an option to come back the following week and get the free one. Tesco is hoping that with this scheme it will not only be able to continue saving consumers money with these special deals but that it can also cut down on food wastage.

An official from Tesco stated that the firm had carried out a survey and had found that its customers did like the buy one get one free deals. However, she also said that many had found that they were having to throw items away when they had opted for buy one get one free deals because they couldn’t get around to eating them before the date on them expired. She added that the deal would help these consumers to continue getting value for money and would ensure that food did not go to waste at the level that it currently is.
