Tips for Reducing Your TV and Broadband Bills

Television and broadband are very important to most people – so important, in fact, that most would rather cut back on other pleasures than reduce the service they receive from their telecommunications providers. According to a survey conducted by Ofcom, the television regulator, consumers say they would prefer to cut back on their holiday spending or eat less at restaurants than cut down on the amount of money they have to pay for TV and Broadband each month.

You don’t have to miss out on these pleasures in order to continue receiving the same TV and Broadband services if you take the time to shop around. Statistics show that most people have not bothered to look for cheaper services and have not switched their service providers even though they know that they are probably paying too much. One of the ways you can save money is to bundle your services from the same provider, such as having your telephone, broadband and digital TV in one package. The service providers often give deep discounts to consumers who have two or more services with them. It also eliminates paying three different bills each month.

There is a lot of competition among service providers. When you become a new customer with a company, you can take advantage of fantastic deals that will cut down on your monthly expenses without any reduction of services.

Take a look at how you use your Broadband service. If you spend a lot of time surfing the net and downloading many programs, then you will need a package with a high number of megabytes. If you do not require such high speed service, then you shouldn’t have to pay the higher price. Consider downgrading the megabyte service and save money.

Do you have a lot of subscription channels in your line-up that you don’t watch? Then why pay for them? Sit back with your remote and TV guide to discern if there are any channels you are paying for and do not need. By checking this out you can cut out some of the costs you have each month and are basically wasting because you do not use them at all.

Instead of subscribing to channels that you only watch once in a while, think about using other services such as On Demand TV, or record the channels when they are on other stations so that you can watch the shows when you are home. If you subscribe to some channels for the new release movies, you can save money by unsubscribing to them and renting the videos at a DVD rental store. This way you only pay for the movies you want to watch.

A DVR is also an investment that can save you money in your TV bill each month. This device lets you pause and rewind live TV. At present, Sky+ has a deal available in which you receive a set top box for only £49 with a new subscription. Check around, though, because some service providers are offering free DVR’s when you sign up with them.

Good article, especially during these times of trying to cut cost. Something else I noticed which I do a lot of these days is to go online and watch some programs and then I unsubscribe on my tv. But I guess thats because I’ve got good Internet.

Something I would add is that it’s vital to review your services regularly. Your needs/circumstances can change in the blink of an eye. Even if nothing changes, you should check online, as you may even find that you can get something better for the money you’re already paying.

If you wanted to compare broadband deals or TV or whatever a few years ago it could be so tedious and complicated but that’s just not the case any more. There’s no excuse not to be on top of it.
