Getting Cheap Car Insurance Online

According to a recent survey undertaken by the AA, 75 percent of us will head directly to the internet to check out online quotes before we decide whether or not to renew our existing policy. However, out of that 75 percent, 60 percent of us spend less than three minutes checking out competitive cheap car insurance quotes online and, unless we see an immediate reduction in our car insurance policy of at least 10 percent or more, we won’t bother looking any further!

So, if we accept that the internet offers us access to some of the best cheap car insurance rates online, how can we make sure we get our hands on these?

Monthly Vs Annual Premium Payments

First of all, before you can decide which cheap car insurance you want to apply for online, you need to decide whether or not you can pay your premium in one-shot or whether you are going to need to ask the insurance provider to pay in instalments – either monthly, quarterly or half-yearly. Obviously if you can pay for the insurance in one-shot, then you are going to have a far better chance of getting cheap car insurance online than you would do in the real world. That doesn’t mean, however, that you cannot get cheap car insurance online paying monthly, quarterly or half-yearly, just that it will not be as cheap as you could have got it.

Excess

The excess you set on your car insurance is going to be a major factor in deciding whether you can get cheap car insurance online. If you decide that you only want a minimal amount of excess, which is the amount that you have to pay for any repairs, etc. before you can claim against the insurance company, then you are going to have less of a chance of finding cheap car insurance anywhere – let alone online! Having said that, if you are willing to work the numbers and have a reasonable excess amount, then there is a very good chance you’ll be able to renew your car insurance online much cheaper than your current ‘real world’ car insurance provider is willing to quote you.

Ask for an introductory discount

As the saying goes, you won’t get anything unless you ask for it! So, just because the numbers may not look too appealing, that doesn’t mean that you cannot talk with the online car insurance provider in the same way as you would a salesperson in real life. After all, it’s not often you accept the first quote in real life, is it? With this in mind, if you have been driving for a while (and are over 25 years of age with a fairly standard car), why not ask the online car insurance provider to give you cheap car insurance online with an introductory offer to change from your current car insurance provider to them.

Look around

Finally, as with all things, finding cheaper car insurance online takes time. As such, take the time to explore different car insurance quotes offered online and soon enough you’ll find a provider willing to offer you cheap car insurance without having to leave the comfort of your home.
