Shopping Around for the Best Deal in Broadband
The aim of the British government is to bring Broadband into every home in the country within a three year period. This is indeed an ambitious plan that leaves households scrambling to find the best possible deal in getting a connection.
Finding a service provider for Internet service is confusing to most because of the contracts and deals of bundled packages being offered by most of the companies that offer customers a deal on their telephone and Broadband in one package.
Some may say that they already have Internet service through dial up, but this is not what the government refers to as Broadband. Broadband is high-speed Internet that does not require a telephone line for connection. Through a modem installed in your home, it is a lot faster to connect to the Internet, receive messages and download files to your computer. You can surf the Internet quickly and easily without the boredom of having to wait for a long time for a page to load.
When you have a Broadband connection, it will not interfere in your ability to use the telephone at the same time. You could be online surfing for information, reading your email or downloading music and talk to your friend on the telephone while you do so.
Finding the best deal in Broadband can be confusing depending on the area in which you live. You do need to have some basic information before you start your search, such as how much speed you need for accessing the Internet. For example, if you spend a lot of time online for work, then you will need the highest speed possible, whereas if you are only online an hour or so a day, you may want to choose a lower speed, which of course, comes with a lower price tag.
Another factor that you have to consider when shopping around for deals in Broadband connections is whether or not you want to sign a long-term contract with the service provider. This could lock you into paying a higher price in the future if another service provider offers a better deal. You can also save money by bundling your Internet and telephone service into one monthly bill. One way you can determine how much you could save in this way is to contact the provider to inquire of the cost of these services separately and then compare this total to the price of the bundled package.
Many people do not bother to shop around for deals and therefore end up paying unnecessarily high prices for their Internet connection. The Carphone Warehouse is currently offering a deal on a second Broadband connection in your home with up to 8mB per second for the low price of only £6.49 per month. The fact of the matter is that few connections are at this high speed. The norm is between 2 mB and 4mB per second and this, according to experts, is usually enough for most households.
There is another side to the Carphone deal, however, which makes it enticing to consumers. As part of this package you must have a telephone package with the company that offers free long distance calling to landlines in the UK in the evenings and on weekends.
AOL also has a deal for new customers that costs only £4.99 per month, but this is only for the first three months. After that, you will have to pay the regular rate of £14.99 per month. There are also different prices for mobile phone packages.
Whichever Broadband package you choose, you still have to pay the rental every month to BT, which will rise from £11.50 to £12.50 in April. You can save yourself money by paying by direct debit.
