As many people will already know the Internet is home to a myriad of bargain covering a vast range of products and services. Whilst many consumers make the majority of their purchases via the Internet there are others that refuse to shop online because they are fearful about things such as security breaches and card fraud.

However, with so many bargains to be had online it seems a shame for those that are too scared to shop online to miss out on the huge savings and excellent choice that the Internet offers.

There are, in fact, many benefits to using the Internet to shop for all sorts of products and services. The first benefits is the excellent choice of providers, products, and services that are available online, as you can get access to products and service from another part of the country or even another part of the world rather than being limited to what is on offer in the local town centre.

Another major benefit is the value for money that you can get online, as many products are services are far cheaper to buy over the Internet than they would be on the High Street.

Many people prefer to shop online because of the ultimate convenience and speed that this offers, and when you shop online you can browse at your own pace and from the comfort and privacy of your own home, making your shopping experience hassle free and simple. However, it is important to make sure that you are shopping safely when you use the Internet and there are a number of tips that can help you to do this.

It is vital to check that any website that you are using is a secure website if you are planning to make a purchase and give sensitive data such as account details on the site. You can do this by using a vetting scheme such as Shopsafe to check on the reliability and security of a website. You can also determine which are secure sites through the presence of a padlock icon or ISIS logo.

Using a price comparison site is another way to check that you are using a secure site, as you will be able to benefit from customer reviews about the sites. You can also tell if a website is secure through the address bar, which should start with https://.

Gareth Griffith from Paypal said: “Always take time to ensure the site you’re entering your details on is legitimate and not a clone site or unsecure. For example, look for the padlock symbol in the browser and make sure the URL starts with ‘https’.”

Another tip when it comes to safe is to be vigilant about your passwords. Avoid using passwords that are obvious or easy to work out, as this could result in someone being able to hack into your account. Choose passwords that would be difficult for someone else to guess, and more importantly make sure that you do not use the same password for all of your Internet shopping sites, as otherwise someone that guesses the password will be able to get into all of your sites rather than just one.
