With many households still reeling from the financial impact of the credit crunch and the recession in the UK many are still looking for ways to reduce their outgoings.

The cost of certain foods has affected the finances of some households, with shopping bills soaring. However, many savvy consumers have now found a way to save money on the cost of their shopping through a number of websites that are selling groceries at rock bottom prices.

The reason that the sites are selling the food at such a cheap price is because the products have passed their sell by date. However, the products have not passed their use by date, which means that whilst they would no longer be sold in supermarkets they are still safe to consumer.

The cost of products can be slashed by as much as 75 percent, saving some people a fortune off the cost of their shopping, and the demand for the service has been steadily growing.

The short dated and out of date food and drink that is being sold ranges from coffee to tinned food and more. Officials from the sites selling the food have said that the demand has reached such levels that some are having to close their sites down for a couple of days each month so that they can deal with orders and get deliveries out on time.

The sites have been busy for a number of months, and it appears that there is still huge demand for the cheap out of date items that are being sold.

One official from the Love Food Hate Waste campaign stated: ‘The average family could save just over £50 a month just by making the most of the food they buy. If you’re buying dry cereal or products, the key to making the most of a bargain is to store food well.’
