First Direct has restored its mortgage services to new customers with a number of two-year, five-year and ten-year fixed-rate deals.

The bank decided to cease offering mortgage deals to non customers on April 1st after it received high numbers of applications and needed time to process them.

Chris Pilling, chief executive of the bank, said that it made the decision to withdraw its mortgage deals for non customers so that it could focus on its service to existing clients.

“We’ve now assessed all the loan applications outstanding from April 1st and earlier and let everyone know the outcome,” he commented

The news comes just as Cheltenham & Gloucester, one of the UK’s biggest mortgage lenders, has withdrawn all of its mortgage products, according to the Guardian.

Cheltenham & Gloucester told the newspaper that it will be replacing its entire mortgage range and most of its interest rates will rise by 0.25 per cent.
