Online shopping wars could start between supermarkets

It is thought that one supermarket may have sparked an online shopping war between the UK’s supermarket giants after announcing that it is eliminating delivery charges associated with having groceries that are ordered online delivered.
Most supermarkets that offer online shopping facilities charge a fee for having the order delivered, which can bump up the cost of the shop for consumers. However, one supermarket, Waitrose, has now announced that it is cutting out this fee.
In the current climate the news that the supermarket is eliminating this fee will be welcomed by consumers. Many people that do not have the time to go to the supermarket and do not wish to battle through the aisles with other shoppers and then get stuck in lengthy queues have started to do the bulk of their grocery and household shopping online, but most are disgruntled about the fairly high charges that are applied for having the goods delivered.
It is now thought that in order to remain competitive and avoid losing their online customers to a rival supermarket a number of other supermarkets may look at either drastically reducing or eliminating the delivery fees, which will come as good news for customers in the current climate, where every penny counts. At present Waitrose charges £3 for deliveries, but any order over the value of £50 will now be delivered for free.
However, there are fears that suppliers could be the ones to suffer if this supermarket war breaks out, as it is thought that they will be the ones that end up making up the shortfall.
