Independent website Your Mortgage has told consumers not to be content with their current mortgages deals because it is “always worth” comparing mortgages from different lenders to try to get a better one.

Pauline McCallion, editor of the website, said that although the mortgage market has shrunk since the credit crunch hit last summer and lenders have become more cautious, this is no reason for people “just sit back” on their current deals.

He said that there may be more competitive deals around and homeowners could potentially save a little money on their monthly repayments.

“The standard of living as a whole is rising at the moment so it makes sense to try and cut costs where you can,” Ms McCallion commented.

According to the British Bankers Association, the number of people switching mortgage deals increased 24 per cent in April from the previous month.
