Holidays still important to Brits

According to a recent report holidays are still important to Brits despite the fact that the global credit crunch has impacted heavily on household finances. In fact, the report suggests that many people would actually rather cut back on every day goods and luxuries than have to give up their yearly holiday, even though many are suffering from really strained household finances.

Consumers have found many different ways to try and cut back on the cost of spending rather than having to give up their annual holiday, and this includes cutting back on going out, spending money on clothes, cutting back on eating out, and other luxuries. Only 2% of those that were polled as part of the survey said that they would consider cancelling their holiday as a result of the financial constraints.

Some other respondents said that they would consider cutting back on drinking out or smoking, and others looked at other ways to cut back on luxuries. However, a huge 95% of Brits said that taking an annual holiday was more important to their happiness than many other things, such as starting a family, owning a home, or having a car, amongst other things.

The global credit crunch has been having severe repercussions on household finances, and other financial factors have also impacted upon household affordability, such as rising energy bills, increased petrol costs, rising food prices, and other increased living costs. Officials have said that those determined to find a holiday can do so at the right price with a little research, with one official stating: “Budget-conscious travellers willing to be flexible and spend time researching dates and destinations can still find the perfect trip at the right price.”
