Many people class the AA as a household name when it comes to breakdown services, and many may think that the AA provides one of the best breakdown services. However, according to a recent survey the AA actually came pretty low down the list in terms of its breakdown services, with a survey that involved interviewing over 32,000 drivers showing that the motoring giant only came eleventh.

One industry officials said: ‘Biggest isn’t always best. The lesser-known and smaller recovery firms generally outshone the big boys.’ An AA official said: ‘Regular independent polling among our 15 million members consistently shows that 95% would recommend the AA to family and friends.’

The RAC, National Breakdown, and Green Flag all came ahead of the AA in the survey, which may have surprised many people who expected the big name firm to come towards the top of the list. Tesco, Direct Line, and Churchill ranked below the motoring giant in the survey listings. The little known company GEM Motoring Assist actually came top of the list, and Churchill, which is famous for its cuddly dog adverts, came in at the bottom of the list.

Consumers are warned to shop around for cover for their breakdown services, and also to bear in mind that if they get free cover through their bank account of via other services that they should check to see whether they receive the same level of cover as they do from a standard policy with a breakdown cover service.
