20 Extreme Ways of Saving Money
Everyone wants to save money these days with money getting tighter all the time. Costs are rising and more and more people are finding themselves out of a job. It is little wonder that a money saving craze is sweeping across Britain. Some are taking radical steps to curb their spending.
According to Brad Liebman of the voucher website bview.co.uk, “In the current climate, everyone needs to save money any way they can. Everyone has an oddball relative who finds wacky ways to save, but now this extreme saving trend has moved into the mainstream.”
Getting something at a very cheap price is something that is enticing to everyone, but getting it free is even better. Check out these tips for getting what you need without having to pay for it.
- Order water at a restaurant with lemon slices. Squeeze the juice from the lemonade into the water and add sugar. You have free lemonade.
- When you go to the pub with your friends, let them treat you to the first few rounds of drinks. By the time your turn comes around, they will either have forgotten whose turn it is to pay or they will not want anything else to drink.
- Use the water at the petrol station to wash your car instead of going to the car wash or using water at your home.
- Take advantage of freebies offered at businesses and banks. This includes free coffee and writing utensils.
- Buy Christmas gifts when items go on sale after New Year’s for friends and family who do not live in your
neighbourhood. You can pretend to be going away for the holidays and distribute the gifts when you seemingly return home - When you do eat at a restaurant take extra amounts of the packaged condiments and refill your bottles when you get home.
- Reuse tea bags for the second cup or sew them in half and only use half a bag each time you want a cup of tea.
- Freeze your credit card in a container of water. Then when you feel the urge to buy something you don’t really need you have to wait for it to thaw out. By then the urge will likely have worn off.
- Cereal is sealed in bags inside the packaging. Instead of throwing out these bags, use them as storage bags. Then you won’t have to buy bags for this use.
- Borrow an umbrella at the railway station when it rains and give it back when you are finished with it.
- Save money on your phone calls by leaving messages on your friends’ answering machines. Make sure you call at times when they are not home. This way they will call you and have to pay for the call.
- Take your clothes in the shower with you and wash them at the same time. Stomp on the clothing at the bottom of the tub while you wash yourself.
- Men can go a few days without shaving and save on the cost of razor blades. Even better, don’t shave at all and grow a beard.
- When you want to invite friends to a barbeque, tell them it is pot luck. This way they will all bring food and drinks and it won’t cost you anything to host the get together.
- Try to use up the food in your fridge and cupboard before you go grocery shopping.
- Exercise at home while you watch TV or take walks in the park. This type of activity is free and still helps you stay in shape.
- Check your email at work or at the library. Cancel your Internet and check out books from the library for your reading material.
- Don’t turn on the lights at home until you really need to.
- Ask for a doggy bag when you can’t finish your meal at a restaurant. This way you have leftovers for another meal.
- Instead of washing your clothes at home, ask a friend if you can bring your laundry to his/her house because your washing machine is on the blink. Tags: money saving tips, return home, water, use, money saving ideas, cheap price, save money, neighbourhood
