Are no frills airlines really as cheap as they seem?
In the current economic and financial climate more and more of us are having to think twice about taking a holiday abroad, but for many an annual vacation is a necessity to help cope with the stresses of everyday life and take some time out with loved ones.
There are some options available for those determined to go abroad for their holidays without spending a fortune, and one of the things that many people look into is booking a no frills airline in order to try and save money on the cost of flights.
However, whilst there are a number of no frills airlines in operation these days, there are a number of things that consumers need to bear in mind with these airlines. The headline cost of the flight can be extremely cheap, and in some cases may even be free, but before holidaymakers get too excited it is important to ensure that you look at the bigger picture, as this is the only way that you will find out what the true cost of the flight is. Although at first glance it may look as though you are paying very little for your flight when you look at the big picture you may find that by the end of it all you may have been better off booking with a traditional airline, although this is not always the case.
Firstly, with some no frills airlines you should remember that when you enter the details of your dates and destinations on to the website the price given is often only a one way flight, and you will then need to check and see what the cost of for the return leg of the flight in order to get the full price for your round trip journey. It is important to remember this, as many people see the price for just one leg of the flight and assume that it is the cost of the flight in total, so when it comes time to book the flight the actual price can come as a shock.
Another thing to remember is that with many no frills airline the headline price bears no relation to the actual price that you will pay once all the bells and whistles have been added. There are many individual things that low cost airlines charge for, and these are things that are already included in the price with standard flights. This includes things such as charges for checking in each piece of luggage, charges for checking in at the airport, fees for additional cabin luggage or weight, hefty credit card charges, government taxes and more. So, a flight that is advertised at something ridiculously low such as £5 or even £1 can end up costing you well over £120 and beyond by the time that you have finished with everything.
If you are considering going abroad and want to save money on the cost of your flights it is always a good idea not to assume that the no frills airlines are going to be the best choice. In some cases, and especially with many airlines having sales every so often to try and boost custom, you may find that you can get a flight with a traditional airline for around the same price, just slightly more, or in some cases less than the eventual cost from the no frills airline.
