More parents may take their kids on holiday during term time

The high cost of holidays outside of school term time is resulting in many parents threatening to take their kids out of school so that the family can afford to go on holiday.

From the time that schools break up to the time when the kids return holiday companies, hotels, and airlines increase their prices significantly, and in the current economic and financial climate many families simply cannot afford to pay these extortionate prices.

Taking a holiday during school holidays can add hundreds of pounds extra to a holiday for a family, and this is something that most simply cannot afford these days. During term time the same holiday can cost a great deal less, and in order to be able to afford to go on holiday without paying so much extra parents are threatening to take kids out of school before the holidays even begin.

Recent research indicated that around 56 percent of parents were prepared to take the risk of breaking regulations by taking their kids out of school during term time to go on holiday. For once in a lifetime holidays this figure increased to a massive 80 percent of parents, who were prepared to break the rules.

One mum said that a way around the problem was to say that the child was being taken on holiday for educational reasons. She said: ‘It makes sense to allow parents to take their children out of school for two weeks at a time, provided that they can cite a few areas of learning for their child. It’s no hardship to show your child where you are going on the map – be it 50 miles of 500 miles, and get them to help plan the route as appropriate to their age.’
