A has become the latest culprit of a string of data loss incidents, having lost sensitive data on around one thousand of its employees. The Leeds Building Society is said to have lost details that included the bank accounts numbers and salary details of around one thousand employees, and staff members affected have been warned to remain vigilant with regards to their accounts, and to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity.

According to reports the loss of data occurred when the building society’s HR department was being refurbished. Officials state that the information may have been mislaid in the chaos and disturbance, but there is nothing to suggest that it has been removed from the building or has fallen into the wrong hands. However, the staff members affected have still be warned to keep a close eye on their accounts in case anything is amiss.

One official from the Leeds Building Society stated: “There has been a significant amount of disruption to achieve this in a short space of time and, whilst every care has been taken, some information is yet unaccounted for in the move from the 1st to the 4th floor. This contains the details you receive on your payslip, some of which is already in the public domain (i.e. on cheques, in the telephone directory, etc). We believe that the details are still in the building and are doing all that is possible to confirm this.”

This is one of the latest in a long line of data loss blunders, with HM Revenue and Customs having lost the details of 25 million people recently, as well as other agencies such as the DVLA, the Department of Work and Pensions, and various other agencies having lost sensitive data relating to consumers or employees.
