According to some officials from a consumer campaign group sing a price comparison site to try and get the best deal on a credit card will not necessarily prove effective. More and more priceĀ  comparison sites have sprung up over the past couple of years, and many people use these to try and get the best deals on credit cards as well as on other products and services such as loans, mortgages, insurance, utilities, and more. However, officials have said that these sites will not necessarily mean that you are getting the best deal.

The research into prove comparison sites was carried out by the consumer campaign group Which? and according to officials from the group the most competitive credit card interest rate varied quite significantly from one price comparison website to another, which means that consumers may find that they can get a better deal from one comparison site than from another, even though they may be under the impression that they will get the best deal no matter which site they use.

The researchers involved in the study said that different questions that were asked by the various sites, and the way in which comparisons were made were making it difficult for proper credit card comparisons to be made. For example, one of the price comparison sites gave the cheapest standard interest rate on a credit card as 6.8% whereas another gave the cheapest rate as 12.9%.

Price comparison sites only compare a percentage of providers on the market, so even when consumers do use the sites there is no guarantee that there is not a cheaper product on the market that has not been included in the comparison.
