In a recent poll carried out by moneysupermarket.com a building society has beaten all of the big banks, pipping them to the post with the number one spot as most trusted bank or building society amongst UK consumers. The big name banks have always claimed to be the most trustworthy and reliable, but the poll has shown that the highest percentage of people actually have more trust in a building society. The Nationwide scooped the number one spot on the poll, and its excellent service and reliability levels were highlighted.
According to the survey results 18.7% of voters put their trust in the Nationwide Building Society, helping to get to the number one spot. Officials from Moneysupermarket state that the building society has done very well to take the number one spot when up against so many big name banks, and that it was the only building society to feature in the top ten on the survey.
The official also added that customers were particularly pleased with the reliability and service levels of the building society, which is something that more and more people are not interested in rather than interest rates and product ranges.
Second place in the poll was taken by NatWest, which took 13.3% of the votes. 11% of the vote went to the Halifax, which came third. In fourth place was Lloyds TSB, which took 10.2% of the vote. HSBC managed to get 8.9% of the vote as most trusted bank, coming in at fifth place. Northern Rock’s popularity had understandably plummeted, and the stricken bank took just 0.5% of the vote.
The poll was to determine which bank or building society was most trusted by UK consumers, looking at areas such as how reliable they were, the level of service that they offered, and various other factors that contributed to their popularity amongst banking customers.
