Try before you buy housing could prove effective

A recent report has shown how some housing developers are now trialling a scheme where a potential property buyer can try out the property that they are thinking of buying for a day or two before they make a decision or commitment. With house sales falling as a result of right credit conditions, falling house prices, and the global credit crunch, those that are able to purchase often need more persuasion and it seems that this try before you buy method could help developers to increase sales and buyers to enjoy increased peace of mind when it comes to making a purchase.
Some property developers are now offering potential buyers the chance to stay in the property for a night or two before they make any commitment, and this enables the consumer to get a feel for the property, find out what the area is like as a resident, meet other local residents and neighbours, and find out more about the local facilities and amenities available. This taster of the property and area could offer increased peace of mind to would be buyers, particularly those in the older age bracket according to officials.
One consumer tried the new scheme and spent a couple of days in a property that she was considering buying. She was happy with the chance to try before she made a decision and said that the opportunity to try definitely affected her decision to buy.
She said: ‘We are taking action to support families who may be facing difficulty because of current market conditions, with £9m more for face to face debt advice, and free legal advice to all households at risk of repossession.’
One housing developer, Bovis, which is trialling the scheme on some of its properties for those in older age groups said that the scheme seemed to be proving successful and popular. One official from the group said: ‘We are taking action to support families who may be facing difficulty because of current market conditions, with £9m more for face to face debt advice, and free legal advice to all households at risk of repossession.’
