It has been claimed in a recent report that financial firms and banks could be hit with a flood of CVs and application forms from fraudsters, who have filled the application form with lies in the hope of getting hired and being able to conduct fraudulent activity at the financial institution.
Officials claim that with the flood of applications and CVs likely to be coming in from recent graduates many firms may not be as stringent as normal when vetting these applications, and this could result in a fraudulent CV slipping through the net.
Police authorities have been warning companies to be on guard with regards to CVs and to continue with strict vetting.
It is thought that not all applications that are filled with lies will be from fraudsters that want to conduct dodgy activities within a financial institution. Many are likely to be from desperate job seekers that have turned to exaggerating or lying on their applications in order to get into work.
One industry official said that the number of applications that were being submitted with lies on them had risen to around 20 percent in the current climate, and this figure was expected to continue increasing.
With university graduates all likely to be fighting over the same positions it is likely that many will try and sell themselves more aggressively than they normally would, and this could be through lying about qualifications or past experience amongst other things.
One police authority official said that employers needed to bear this trend in mind when advertising for vacancies, and that they needed to make sure that they checked applications thoroughly to verify details. He said: ‘Employers have got to do their due diligence.’
