The Royal Bank of Scotland, which also owns NatWest, has recently announced that there will be a greater number of branches for both RBS and NatWest opening on a Saturday, which will provide consumers with increased ease and convenience if they need to visit their bank. Officials from RBS said that the decision to increase the number of stores opening on a Saturday was down to increased demand from its customers.

According to reports there will be around 40% of branches opening on Saturdays as part of the move, which equates to around 883 RBS and NatWest branches in total. Officials state that RBS branches will most likely operate from ten in the morning until two in the afternoon on Saturdays, and NatWest branches will open from ten in the morning until three in the afternoon.

Officials state that whilst Internet and phone banking has prove popular, many customers still want to visit the branch and speak to someone face to face, and that the move is designed to give customers of the bank what they want. Following research RBS claims that 67% of its customers visit the branch and 73% of NatWest customers visit their branches.

An official from NatWest said: ‘For us, it is vital that customers are able to go about their banking in the most convenient way, however they choose to deal with us, be it through branches, over the phone, using ATMs or via the internet. We believe in convenient banking for our customers and almost 70% of our customers define convenience as “branches being open when I need them”. We’ve responded accordingly.’
