Ryanair makes millions in charges

Over recent years a rising number of consumers going on their travels have decided to opt for a low cost or budget airline in the hope of saving money on the cost of their travels.

However, what many fail to realise is that on top of the advertised ticket price that is charges by these budget airlines there are also many other charges that come into play, such as check in fees, luggage fees, and fees for actually making the booking, all of which can bump up the total price of the flight.

One such low cost airline that has enjoyed great success over recent years is Ryanair, and according to a recent report his airline has made a fortune on the fees that it charges customers.

It is claimed that between 2006 and 2008 this airline saw an increase of a massive 73 percent on revenue made from these ’stealth charges’, making a whopping £548 million a year from charges alone.

One official that was involved in researching these figures said that all of the extra charges were part of the actual fare, even though it may not appear that way at first glance.

He said: ‘Where I have disagreements with carriers is where the additional fee, such as a charge for booking online, is not optional. These fees are really part of the fare. It is disingenuous to pretend they are anything else.’

An official from Ryanair stated: ‘Ryanair provides Europe’s guaranteed lowest fares by providing a range of ancillary revenue services such as accommodation, travel insurance, bus and rail tickets, car hire, financial services and in-flight telephone services as well as in-flight beverages, food and merchandising. Ryanair is not simply an airline. It is the Tesco of the skies.’
