The fear that many consumers feel about making purchases over the Internet could be causing them to miss out on the many bargains that can be found online.
According to one recent report many people are nervous about making purchases online using their credit or debit cards because of their fear of becoming victims of online card fraud, and because of this they could be shelling out far more than they need to on purchases ranging from electrical items and gifts, to entertainment and even holidays.
The Internet has become a haven for those looking for a bargain over the years, as the incredible choice of providers means that there are some very competitive deals available on a wide range of products and services.
However, many of those that buy the same products or services offline may miss out on the savings available, and whilst some people cannot access these deals due to lack of Internet access others are simply too frightened to access them because they feel that their payment details may not be secure enough.
Consumers that do want to be able to benefit from the bargains that can be found online, particularly in the run up to Christmas, are advised to familiarise themselves with online security tips.
Most bona fide websites these days that might ask for your account details use sophisticated software that will encrypt your data so that others cannot access it. Consumers can tell if a website is secure from the padlock icon, the ISIS sign, or from the address bar, which should start with https:// rather than just http://.
The fears that many people have over online shopping stems from rising numbers of CNP or Card Not Present fraud, which includes internet transactions, phone transactions, and mail order transactions.
