Get ready for sale time

Whilst many of us may still be thinking about the forthcoming Christmas and New Year period, which is fast approaching, there are also many people that will be thinking ahead to the January sales, which are always popular amongst savvy shoppers in the UK.

This January there are likely to be more people than ever looking to bag a bargain or two, given the financial difficulties that many have encountered over the course of this year which has stopped them from being able to treat themselves. With prices set to plummet at the start of January, as retailers try and cash in on sales fever, many people could make up for missing out on luxuries this year by treating themselves to a wide range of goodies all at rock bottom prices.

The first thing to bear in mind is that if you plan to hit the shops as soon as the sales start you should make sure that you have the means to do so. It’s not just money that you need to take advantage of the sales, it is also time. Many people are in a position where they can just rush out as soon as the sales start and for those of us that cannot make it the shelves are pretty much bare by the time we get there. The sales this year are likely to start on 28th December, directly after the Christmas weekend, although they will most likely get into full swing a little later in the week.

For those people that work full time it is a good idea to prepare yourself and try and get the day off work so that you are ready and raring to go on the day that the sales start. Whilst the first day of the sales may be very busy those that want to get the best bargains will need to prepare themselves to put up with the crowds. Make arrangements to hit the sales with a friend or family member, as this is always more fun, will take your mind off the queues, and will mean that there are more hands available to carry all the bargains!

Also, don’t just rush out to the sales without any idea of what you plan to get. Whilst spontaneous purchases are all part of shopping in the sales you should also make sure that you have an idea of specific things that you want to get, such as that little black dress you have been after for so long, a stylish new pair of shoes, or electrical gadgets for the home. You can then ensure that you head directly for the most appropriate stores rather than wasting your time in shops where you don’t buy anything only to find that when you get to the shops you do want to buy from everything is gone.

One thing that many thrifty consumers do is to buy their Christmas gifts for the following year in the January sales. This is an excellent way to save money, and you will be amazed at the amount of money you will be able to get off gifts that have been left over from Christmas. Many retailers slash up to 75 percent off the original price of the gift, which means that when Christmas comes around again and other consumers are paying full whack for their gifts you will have your present all ready and for a fraction of the price.
