Save yourself some money this Christmas
Whilst Christmas is now only around the corner there are still plenty of people that simply haven’t had the time or spare cash to get their Christmas shopping done as early as they may have liked to have done it.
However, whilst you may be dreading the prospect of scraping together the money to buy gifts, battling the queues and the hassle of going out and fighting for last minute bargains with the other last minute shoppers, and spending more money than you can really afford on things that you are not even sure the recipient wants, there is one bit of good news – there are still dome great bargains to be had this Christmas.
In addition to many retailers reducing prices on gifts for last minute shoppers in the hope of getting the stragglers through the doors with tempting prices there are also other means that you can use to avoid having to spend money that you don’t have. Bearing a few simple tips in mind when you do your Christmas gift shopping could help you to save valuable money, which is important to all of us in the current financial and economic climate.
Using your rewards points is a great way to purchase gifts without having to spend money. You may have points collected on your supermarket cards, on your credit cards, or on other store loyalty cards such as a Boots card. Often, people accrue these points over the course of the year and don’t even realise how much they have accrued. Make sure that you check any points cards that you have, as you may find that you have enough on there to buy a present or two, saving yourself money right away.
Don’t assume bargains are always in the shops. You will see many advertisements on the television or radio over the festive season telling you about major retailers that are having a 20 percent off day or a half price day, but if you can’t get to the shop don’t worry as they usually have the promotion online too. In fact, this is even better because instead of battling through the queues to get your bargains you can sit back with a cuppa and browse through the sale items at your own pace. You can then make your purchases and have them delivered to your door hassle free.
Think about when you will be giving your presents. Many people don’t get to see all of their friends or relations in the run up to Christmas, and therefore there is still a lot of gift giving going on after the big day. If you are planning to buy presents for friends or relations that you will not see until the New Year then you could save some money by simply waiting until the sales to buy their presents, when you could get them for half price or even cheaper!
Look out for special deals. Buy two and get the third free has become a popular gift selling strategy in supermarkets and big retailers, so make sure that you keep an eye on these offers, as it means that you could effectively get every third gift for absolutely nothing, which means that you cut a third from your Christmas shopping bill.
